How to clean your jewellery?

How to clean your jewellery?

The jewellery we wear on a daily basis is always in contact with our skin and the environment. This means that the acidity of our skin, the dust/dirt in the environment and contact with lotions, cosmetics or perfumes will unfortunately steal some of shine making it look dull over time. A general clean from time to time will help to keep your beloved ELIRAY jewellery looking beautiful for as long as possible.

Cleaning gold plated jewellery
Plated jewellery has a layer of gold on top of a base metal such as brass or stainless steel. When cleaning gold plated jewellery, be as gentle as possible so you don’t damage the plating.
Do’s:
  • After every use, clean your jewelry with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt to avoid l avoid build up of dirts and oils
  • You can either use a mild soap (a couple of drops per cup of water) and scrub lightly with warm water. Rinse with water and air dry on a tissue afterwards. You can also gently pay with a microfibre cloth or a piece of cotton.
  • Always store your jewellery moisture free, cool, dry place. Keep your jewels separately in a jewellery box or in your ELIRAY pouch to avoid scratches
Don’t:
  • If your jewellery has stones, don’t soak your jewellery in water as that can loosen the glue or dull the shine of the stone.
  • Use a polishing cloth or anything abrasive as this will damage the plating much faster from the piece.
  • Use cleansers with harsh chemicals as they can damage the plating
  • Soak pieces in a cleaning solution for long.
  • Store your jewellery in open air because it will collect dust and dirt
  • Spray perfume directly on your jewellery
Following our tips and storing and cleaning your items correctly will help to prevent discolouring and keep your jewellery looking shiny and beautiful for a long time. Remember that your jewelry should always be the last thing you put on when you dress up and the first thing you take off when you come home.
